Study Journal #2

Date: Sept 8, 2008

Principles and Doctrines:

Missionaries assist the gathering of Israel. All who accept the gospel of Jesus Christ become part of the special lineage of the house of Israel. It is our job as missionaries to go out and find the members of the house of Israel and introduce them to the principles and doctrine.

Supporting Scriptures:

D&C 29:7-Missionaries are called for a specific purpose by the Lord. That purpose is to bring to pass the gathering of His elect. If we teach them the gospel, they will soften their hearts and hear the words which is the central message of missionaries.

1 NE 22:4, 11-12-The tribes are scattered and lost, also they are lost from the knowledge. To bring the scattered tribes from "darkness", as is says, they have to be made known that Jesus is their Redeemer!

Inspirational Writings:

Elder Russell M. Nelson taught that missionary work is only the beginning of the gathering of Israel. I testify that if we keep the commandments and focus on becoming what the Lord wants us to become, we will receive the blessings of the Abrahmic covenant.

Study Journal #1

Date: Sept. 2, 2008

Principles and Doctrines:

The Lord has said "The field is white already to harvest" (D&C 4:4)
Our generation is the perfect time for the greatest missionary efforts on this earth possible. the Lord compares today's modern era to a wheat field that is ready to harvest, like unto the people in this dispensation. There is a crucial need for us to harvest souls and bring them to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Now is the time when we have the great opportunity as LDS missionaries to plant the seed of faith into all of God's children.
Supporting Scriptures:
1. D&C 11:3-The Lord gives revelation to go and do missionary work. I personally like how this scripture describes doing the work with all our "might", that we should work hard to bring people to Christ.
2. D&C 123:12-This scripture shows that many people are waiting for the truthfulness of the Gospel, but they know not where to find it. As a future missionary, I feel that I, as well as anyone could be the person who shows a lost soul how to me a devoted disciple of Christ, it is a very special feeling.
Inspirational Writings:
L. Tom Perry gave a promise to all those who decide to serve a full time mission. He said: "To you who will accept the call to go forth and serve, I can promise you that your good name will never be forgotten in this world or the eternities to come". This causes me to feel that devoted missionary work is not only beneficial to investigators, but it will also bless the life of the missionary teaching. I am very anxious to start on the long, hard, rewarding trial of missionary service. My testimony of the importance of missionary work has greatly been increased and hopefully continue to increase.
