Inspirational Writings:

The concept of treasuring up the words of the Lord is important for any missionary and faithful servant of God to truly understand. We need to not just read though the scriptures, but deeply ponder them, and think how we can apply them in our own lives. This will aid in converting other people as well as converting ourselves to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the only true gospel on earth.

Principles and Doctrines: Bearing testimony invites the Spirit into our teaching.

A testimony can be defined as a spiritual witness and assurance given by the Holy Ghost. It is well known that this assurance is what gets people converted to the gospel of Jesus. Sharing your testimony often is one of the most powerful ways of inviting the Spirit and helping others feel the Spirit. It is important to note that the church does not convert by signs and wonders, but by the testimony of the Holy Ghost. It is not loud, but a still small voice.

Supporting Scriptures:

2 Nephi 33:1-The Holy Ghost can do so much for us to strengthen us spiritually. Here we see that due to Nephi's faith, the Holy Ghost was able to make his words and writings mighty. This aided in showing other people the truthfulness of the Gospel.

D&C 100:5-8-The power of the Holy Ghost is great. It has the ability to make us say things, and bring certain things to our mind from our memory.

Inspirational Writings:

The most important thing to focus on as missionaries is to possess the gift of the Holy Ghost so that it will give us enhanced abilities to teach the gospel. As said before, the Holy Ghost can be used to bring forth things to our memories to say. The only way someone can be converted to the gospel is the the testimony of the Holy Ghost and we can invite the Holy Ghost to testify by bearing our own testimonies.

Principles and Doctrines: We obtain the word by study and by preparing to teach the restored gospel.

The Lord has created wonderful blessings and promises to those who diligently study the scriptures. The prophet Gordon B. Hinkley taught that if we can learn to enjoy our daily time with the scriptures, we will be enlightened. We can become closer to the Lord through the process of obtaining the Word. And Success in righteousness, the power to avoid deception and resist temptation, guidance in our daily lives, healing of the soul--these are just some of the blessings that come with obtaining the sacred word.

Supporting Scriptures:

D&C 88:118-We should seek the best books--which are the scriptures, and study them by faith. That is how we share wisdom among each other.

D&C 109:7-This scripture says the same thing, that if we can seek diligently, using all our strength to study with faith we will be blessed as a people with knowledge and wisdom.

Inspirational Writings:

When we turn to the scriptures, or the "best books", we please the Lord immensely. The Lord wants us to preach the gospel as best we can with the Spirit on our side. The only way that we can do that is to firstly, have a knowledge of the word obtained by diligence and faith. This will strengthen us as missionaries and cause us to be more successful.

Principles and Doctrines: Prayer and pondering the scriptures help prepare us to receive the influence of the Holy Ghost.

Obedience to the commandments is an important prerequisite to have the Gift of the Holy Ghost with us at all times. Also, along with obedience to the commandments, we need to incorporate prayer and humility. It is important that we learn how to pray and receive answers to our prayers. The Scriptures teach that we can inquire of the Lord about anything, and if we are faithful, we will always receive an answer, even if it is not the answer we are seeking.

Supporting Scriptures:

1 Nephi 11:1-We were made God's image, and He has a body just like us. In our prayer, he speaketh to us like one man to another, this shows his ultimate humility to treat us like he does.

2 Nephi 4:15-16-The Scriptures are here for the benefit of the children of man. The way we use these sacred works can be pleasing to the Lord, as long as we us them for the good of our spirituality.

Inspirational Writings:

Prayer and deeply studying the scriptures are great ways to increase our closeness to God. From personal experience, I can honestly say that every time I am feeling lonely, or troubled, I can always turn to the written word of God for comfort and strength. This is a great way as missionaries to fully prepare to teach the gospel with the Spirit. When we faithfully come to God in prayer and scripture study, we increase the Holy Ghost with us.

Principles and Doctrines: Personal preparation and worthiness are necessary to teach by the Spirit.

From preparing and becoming worthy missionaries, the Lord will bless us with His Spirit. "Every missionary should strive to devote part of each day to study and prayerful thought on the principles of the gospel and the theology of the Church..." The Spirit is here to manifest the truth of all things and through its influence, the children of men can become closer to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Supporting Scriptures:

Alma 5:46- The key to this scripture is how we need to have faith, and if we do, the Lord will send His Holy Ghost to testify to us and it will personally be known unto us.

Alma 8:10- Alma depended on the Lord through prayer, to teach the people with the Holy spirit and because of his faith, Alma had the Gift of the Holy Ghost in his teaching.

Inspirational Writings:

We are taught time and time again that the only way we can truly convert anyone to the gospel of Jesus Christ is to have the Spirit of the Lord touch there hearts. But, the only way to be blessed with that important conversion tool is to be personally worthy. This comes to us by keeping the commandments and using God's gift of the Atonement of Christ!

Principles and Doctrines: Sensitivity and obedience to the Spirit is one of a missionary's greatest resources.

The influence of the Spirit is the most powerful element in a person's conversion to the restored gospel. We need to learn to be sensitive to the Spirit and learn to follow the impressions they receive, also learn to obey its promptings. Missionaries are taught that they need to develop genuinely warm, personal, caring relationships with those whom they meet. As missionaries teach doctrines, they become closer and more familiar with the Holy Ghost.

Supporting Scriptures:

2 Nephi 33:1-We can rely on the Holy Ghost, with faith, to make our teaching "strong" like unto Nephi's teaching and writing.

D&C 43:15-16-The Lord made a commandment that we are to teach the children of man with His Holy Spirit. That way, they can become closer to the Gospel.

Inspirational Writings:

The only way that we can guarantee ourselves to be successful missionaries is our sensitivity to the Holy Ghost and its promptings. If we can master teaching with it, not only will our investigator's testimony strenghten, but our own and also our companion's testimony will not cease to grow, therefore, we will have greater success on our mission.

Principles and Doctrines: The Light of Christ is a power for good in the lives of all people.
The Light of Christ "fosters everything that is good". This is Gods gift to all human kind to know the difference between good and evil. The Light of Christ has many names, including: The Spirit of Christ or the Spirit of God. It giveth light to every man that cometh into the world. This power is a prerequisite to receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

Supporting Scriptures:

Moroni 7:16-19-This Light of Christ is given to all men that we may know good from evil. It's is also a way we can become true children of Christ

D&C 88:11-13-Light of Christ can give us inspiration and show us understanding concerning spiritual things.

Inspirational Writings:

The Light of Christ can inhabit everyman. As missionaries, we can use this as a tool to unlock the investigator's personal righteousness, and prepare them to start the conversion process. Also, we can use the Light of Christ, in accordance with the Gift of the Holy Ghost, to be a shining, public example of what a missionary is, a representative of God, the Savior, and the Holy Ghost.

Principles and Doctrines:

Repentance is a cleansing process that allows us to become worthy. As stated before, the more worthy you are personally, the more success you will have as a missionary. No one is perfect in this world, but through the girt of the Atonement of Christ, we can be close to perfect. Repentance is the process to becomes worthy, everyone must do it. If we repent sincerely, He will forgive us and remember our sins no more.

Supporting Scriptures:

Mosiah 26:29-The Lord will completely forgive him that confess and repent of sins.

Helaman 14:13-In order to receive a remission for our sins, we must believe in His name and believe that the Lord is willing to forgive and forget.

Inspirational Writings:

One requirement to fully take advantage of the gift of the Atonement Jesus Christ gave to us is to have faith in Him. We need a testimony that Christ died and suffered for our sins. I personally know that only through the Atonement that Heavenly Father has given us, we can live eternally in heaven

Study Journal #3

Principles and Doctrines:

Personal worthiness is necessary to accomplish missionary work. The requirements of a successful missionary are demanding. Perhaps the most important requirement is to have the Holy Ghost with you at all times. The only way one can truly be converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ is to have the Holy Ghost testify that it all is true. We, as missionaries, must be personally worthy to have the gift of the Holy Ghost with us at all times.

Supporting Scriptures:

D&C 38:42-When we preach to the wicked, we can be examples of righteousness if we are worth. We bear vessels of the Lord, therefore we need to be clean.

D&C 88:74-Worthy missionary service is a direct commandment from the Lord.

Inspirational Writings:

If we can enter the mission field as perfect as we possibly can be by use of the Atonement of Christ, it will be a lot easier than if we are not worthy. We can focus on the work rather than having to deal with the repentance process and past regrets. What a great blessing we get to go on a mission and we shouldn't waste it repenting!
